Frequently Asked Questions
The Northern Plains Heritage Alliance…what is that?
The Northern Plains Heritage Alliance is an amalgamation, a group of organizations that share goals and success. It is the official relationship that exists between an ever-growing list of non-profit organizations, facilities, special events, and businesses that are all marching in unison toward similar goals and serving similar missions.
This group includes The Fort Abraham Lincoln Foundation, The Lewis & Clark Riverboat, The Mnishoshe Charter Pontoon, The Landing, and the Bismarck River Commons.
Are you still affiliated with Fort Lincoln State Park?
Bittersweetly, no. However, it is amongst our proudest achievements to have declared ‘Mission Accomplished’ after building the Officer’s Quarters (Custer’s House), The Commissary, The Granary, the Barracks, multiple Earth Lodges, and many historical interpretations at what is now the state’s most popular state park. We set out to show visitors what life was like on a US Military installation in the 1800’s in the Dakota Territory, and what life was like for the indigenous population through the last millennium. So understandably, it was a proud moment when we donated all of our entire collective works, transferring 30 years of passionate work to the ND Parks Department for the public to enjoy forevermore.
Wait, you own and operate the Lewis & Clark Riverboat as well?
Yes, this vessel has been proudly operated by the Northern Plains Heritage Alliance since 2008. We look forward to hosting you next.

What happens at The Heritage River Landing and what will happen at the Bismarck River Commons?
The Landing is currently our headquarters, and the ticketing office for The Lewis & Clark Riverboat. It also houses a restaurant area capable of housing any restaurateur who shares our enthusiasm from the cool waters of The Missouri River.
The Bismarck River Commons is a currently-under-development project, than upon completion, will be the crown jewel of the Bismarck-Mandan community, and the pride of the Upper-Missouri River.
Combining for nearly a quarter-million square feet of Missouri Riverfront space, this complex will be home to a multitude of amenities including a community center, a playground, and an outdoor pavilion.
It will become the new home of The Lewis & Clark Riverboat, with ticket sales being executed from inside and a new and improved dock becoming the the home-port of our passenger vessel.
